So, I did really bad with my June Goals, because on June 9th, my apartment flooded, and I am still dealing with the aftermath. And in July, Nick came home for a few weeks, so I was mainly focused on soaking up every minute with him before he left again. I didn’t set any goals in July but I would call that a success!
Here’s how I did with my June goals and what I hope to accomplish this month! I think that writing them down helps me accomplish them, what about you?
June Goals and Results
1. Read 4 books. Done!
2. Print a canvas from our trip to New Zealand to hang in our bedroom. I think that I have selected the photo I want to print, so now I’m just waiting for a sale!
3. Print one other canvas for the living room and rearrange some photos we have hanging up. I put this on hold for now because I don’t think we need any more photos printed until our apartment is back in shape.
4. Print photos for our 2016 & 2017 scrapbooks. Done! Now I’ve been spending my evenings working on them. The goal is to catch up and then give them to Nick on Christmas
5. Go on a hike once per week. I completed this in June, so I will call it a win. But didn’t stick with this when Nick came home in July. He only got one day off per week and he was too tired to hike, so we just hung around. Now that he’s gone again, I hope to get back into hiking with my friends.
6. Workout 3x per week. My friend who is a personal trainer and a badass has been kind enough to start training me, and she has me working out 3x a week!
7. Start volunteering regularly.
8. Get a morning routine. We’ve been having contractors in the apartment almost every day, making a morning routine impossible.
9. Clean my car. This was my biggest accomplishment by far.
10. Avoid seeing a cockroach in my apartment. I avoided seeing a cockroach in June and July, but I am not crossing it off because I think that will jinx seeing them in the future!
So here’s what I’d like to accomplish in August
1. Continue working out 3x per week. This should be easy now that my friend is training me! She even tells me what to do on the days we aren’t working out together.
2. Complete online casework training for the Navy Marine Corps Relief Society. Right now, I am managing my office’s social media, but I also want to move into casework. As a caseworker, I will be able to help people create budgets, talk to them about their finances, and give out larger loans. The society has a rigorous training program for all of their volunteer jobs, which is awesome because they really help you learn and succeed. I want to write a whole post about the Navy Marine Corps relief society soon.
3. Read 4 books.
4. Complete the Minimalist Challenge. Jen from Lost in the Right Direction has been posting about her progress every day! I really want to try the Kon Mari Method, but I don’t think it will really work unless Nick and I do it together. Through the Minimalist Challenge, you get rid of one thing on day one, two things on day two, etc. I’m on day 8 and going strong. This is actually perfect timing for me because the apartment is kind of in disarray, so I’ve been going through all of our stuff slowly and trying to get rid of whatever we don’t need.
5. Make one new recipe a week. With Nick gone so much, it would be easy to go out all of the time or just make the same things over and over again until I’m sick of them. So I set this goal to keep myself eating healthy food I actually like.
6. Write in my journal every morning. I used to do this every morning, but lately, I haven’t been. I need to get back to it.
7. Work on my scrapbooks! They have to be done by December but it’s so easy to put them off when I have work and other things to do.

I think it’s great that you are following the minimalist challenge. It’s something I have definitely thought about doing.
I didn’t even realize the Minimalist Challenge was a thing! I did that a few months ago, but I kept cheating and counting things like garbage someone didn’t throw away. haha My husband has been working out of state for a few months and I definitely have been guilty of just going out. It’s kind of the worst to cook for yourself and a preschooler. She has decided that everything is “disgusting.”

I hope to never see a roach in my flat either, I would flip out! And good on you for working out 3x a week – so jealous your friend is a trainer and is training you!!
Yep I totally get not crossing off the roach thing–one thing I absolutely do not miss about Hawaii!! Also I didn’t know you scrapbook!!!!–that’s fantastic! Good luck on all the things!

So story time… (Since you’re a military couple I feel like this is relatable.) My grandpa was in the airforce and after he and my grandma were married, they moved to Georgia together for a while. My grandma told me that when they lived on base there they’d get home in the evenings and she’d make him wait until she crawled up on the dining room table before she’d let him turn on the lights. Once she was up high, he’d turn the lights on and A DISGUSTING AMOUNT of cockroaches would go scurrying across the floor under cabinets and walls and stuff.
I think it’s one of the grossest stories I’ve ever heard. Hahaha! Hopefully your situation isn’t like that 😉
