See what I did there?

Lately, I’m finding:

That if you can’t decide what dessert you should order, you should get two. Plus coffee. Case in point:

That good coffee tastes so much better black.

That you should say yes more often. I realized that I am quick to say no when I don’t think something is going to work out. But if you take a few minutes to go through the logistics, you can make awesome things happen.

That taking risks and doing scary things sometimes pays off. A few months ago, I submitted a freelance article to a military spouse website that I read regularly. I was terrified to hit send, but I knew that I literally had nothing to lose. The website ended up publishing my article! The article is written directly for military spouses, which is one of the reasons why I wanted to try to get it published on a military spouse website instead of my blog, but you can read it here if you like.

That you’re never too old for magic. Get this. Nick and I booked a trip to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter for this summer, and I couldn’t be more excited! I’ve been waiting for so long for the right time to go. That time is now! Harry Potter was so important to me growing up, and still is.

What are you finding lately?

  1. There’s always room for two desserts, especially if chocolate is involved! And I’m so excited for your trip to Harry Potter World! You’re going to have such a blast and love how they’ve really made everything so magical! Let me know if you have any questions about anything!

Ashley! I’ve totally been stalking your blog posts about Harry Potter World!! I don’t want to know too much about Harry Potter World because I want to be surprised with all the little details, but I need a game plan, like which rides to go on and when and what is the best food to eat. I’ll have to go back to your posts again but what were your favorite things to eat?!

  2. Lauren says:

Two desserts are always better than one! Congratulations on having your article published! Stepping outside of your comfort zone usually does pay off.

    • Carolann says:

I’ve always been bad with stepping outside my comfort zone, but I am trying hard this year to break out of it. It does pay off! Thank you so much, Lauren!

  3. Heidi says:

I only drink good coffee black. Especially with desserts. 🙂 Way to go on that article!!

    • Carolann says:

Thanks so much, Heidi! How did I only now realize this secret about black coffee?! It’s so good.. I still drink cold brew with milk. Maybe because it’s so much stronger?

  4. Lea says:

I thoroughly appreciate this post, if anyone can appreciate multiple desserts, it’s me. I also enjoyed reading the article you contributed to the military spouse site. You are one strong and amazing lady! xo

    • Carolann says:

That means so much to me, Lea! Thank you. I was really nervous to submit it but I was even more nervous to share it with all my friends and family for some reason, so I really love and appreciate your support! Now let’s talk about when we are going to have more dessert… 😉

  5. Jenn says:

I agree, you should always order all the desserts, and you are most definitely never too old for magic!

    • Carolann says:

Thanks Jenn! Oh my gosh I’m so excited for the magic of Harry Potter. There will be multiple desserts there for sure!

What is it the kids used to say, YOLO!

  7. Ordering multiple desserts is ALWAYS appropriate!

  8. Totally agree with your philosophy on dessert! Congratulations on having your article published! That’s awesome. I’m soooo jealous that you get to go to The Wizarding World!! I hope you post lots of pictures so I can live vicariously through you! 🙂

    • Carolann says:

Thanks so much! That is really sweet. It was such a great feeling to have that article published. And I will have plenty of pictures from Harry Potter! I already feel bad for my poor husband 😉

      Thanks for stopping by, Emma!

  9. Ok so you probably know by now that I would have done the same thing with the two desserts!!But I am so pleased to hear that you pressed send despite your nerves and in doing so, proved to yourself that you totally kick ass at writing when they accepted and published it.About to go and have a read now! Well done!

    • Carolann says:

Thank you so much, Shikha! That really means a lot to me. I think that this has given me the push I needed to keep with writing and, hopefully, keep submitting articles!

As for the desserts, I’m about to do it again this weekend 😉
