Hello, it’s me!

It’s been a while since I’ve been able to blog, but thankfully things have finally calmed down enough for me to get back to it.

So grab a cup of coffee or maybe a glass of wine and let’s talk about what we’ve been up to lately.

Dressing up for our second Oktoberfest of the season! It was so fun to whip out these costumes and drink beer.

Feeling: Relieved. I quit my job. I am kinda bummed about it and it was hard for me to do, but it just wasn’t the job for me. I kept thinking about this post I wrote about saying no. After getting sick and feeling like I’ve been drowning for the past few months, I knew that it was time to let go.

This job was hard for me to quit because I enjoyed it. I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to explore Hawaii for a while and get paid for it. Because I was always looking for new things to do, I got to learn a lot about Hawaii an do some cool things. I’m planning a surprise trip for Nick over the holidays and it’s going to be awesome because of everything I’ve learned over the past few months.

It was also hard to quit because on paper, it seemed like an awesome job. It seemed crazy to give it up. But no matter how glamorous someone’s life may appear online, you really never know what they are going through. I had to be honest with myself and with my limitations, and that was hard to do.

Loving: Having Nick home. Also, the cooler weather and rain that we’ve been having lately. I light up my pumpkin spice candles and it feels like Fall.

Making: Scrapbooks. I’ve talked about this a few times on my blog, but I make a scrapbook for Nick every single year for Christmas. Unfortunately, when we moved from Hawaii to New York two years ago, I got behind and I’ve been a year behind ever since. This year I am catching up and I’m pretty excited about they are turning out. I’m hoping to be completely caught up so that I can just make the next scrapbook as I go throughout the year.

Cooking: Not much since Nick is home to cook. I enjoy cooking but cooking for one gets old quickly. I’m not ashamed to admit I’ve had cheese and crackers for dinner. By the time Nick gets home from his underways, I’m ready to let him do the cooking. Nick loves to cook so when he’s home he does as much of it as he can. It’s a good stress reliever for him, plus his food is 10000x better than mine.

Reading: All the Ugly and Wonderful Things by Bryn Greenwood. This is the October book for Beyond Words: A Bloggers’ Book Club, a super low-key book club that Christy and I run on Goodreads. If you’re interested in joining click here!

We are having a linkup this Friday. It’s low-key, just link up your recent book reviews. I love reading book reviews so I’d love to have you link up with us on Friday. Book review posts from my blog friends are how I get about 50% of the books I read.

Watching: Once Upon a Time. I know I am super late to this since it’s already in its 7th season, but I just started watching it and I am 100% obsessed. If you haven’t seen it yet, you should! This would make a great deployment binge show. It’s on Netflix!

Lifting lots of heavy things. My friend who is training me had a “max out day” for her clients, which means that you keep lifting heavy things and adding weight until you physically can’t do it anymore. It’s a good way to see your progress and where you’re at, and it’s also really cool to be able to lift something heavy that you couldn’t lift before. I went up in weights and it was really awesome to see my progress!

Buying Christmas presents. Yeah, I’m that weirdo who likes to buy Christmas presents way in advance. I really enjoy buying presents for other people, so I want to enjoy the process of Christmas shopping. I love to just casually buy things when I see them or think of them. I also like to make Christmas presents which takes some extra time.

I hate leaving things for last minute, I hate crowds, and I hate paying a lot of money for shipping, so early shopping is the way to go for me. Plus, it helps spread out the spending so you’re not spending a ton of money right at Christmas. So for me, I shop early because I personally enjoy it. You might laugh now, but I’ll be the one laughing on Christmas Even when I’m home drinking wine.

What have you been up to lately? Have you thought about Christmas or do you think I’m crazy?

  1. Good for you for realizing your limitations! I have had difficulty in the past with my limitations. It is hard for me to not to compare myself to other people (who seem to be able to balance a lot more then I can), but everyone is different and you have to put yourself first!

  2. Hooray for having Nick home, and that he’s cooking too! I swear that’s one of my favorite things that Chris likes to do- cook! And I was definitely bummed that we didn’t get to go to an Oktoberfest this year, but I definitely want to go next year and have all of us dress up! hopefully my outfit from last year will still fit!

  3. Good for you for quitting a job that wasn’t the right fit! Glad you are enjoying time with your hubby home!

Yay for Nick being home and for you knowing your boundaries and going with what’s best for you! That’s what counts and you’re so brave for realizing that!

I’m so glad that you made the decision to quit. If you just feel that you are not getting anything out of it and if it just isn’t for you that’s okay. Kudos to you for making that choice.

I’m so glad Nick is back! And you’re not consigned to cheese and crackers for dinner 🙂

I’m starting my Christmas shopping now because shipping times from here to the UK are a bit silly. I need to think about it now or I’ll miss the boat. You’re not crazy!

It’s always so hard making a big job decision like that, but it sounds like you took away a lot from the position and made the best decision. I really want to get a head start on Christmas gifts this year- somehow time always gets away from me and I hate feeling rushed or pressured to find something.

We are so similar 🙂 I used to watch OUAT religiously but I fell off the wagon around season 5. I’d like to watch it again. I think I might start over and give myself a project 🙂
So glad Nick has been home with you and cookin’ ya some dinner!! And yay for quitting your job. Sometimes you just have to. You can’t do it all and there’s absolutely no shame in realizing that. Do what makes you happy! I’ve left good job and people before because my brain just couldn’t do it all.
I’m shopping for Xmas, too 😉
Post some scrapbook stuff once you get some pages done- I want to see it!!

  9. I like to Christmas shop early too, when I can. Spread out the spending so it’s not tons of money in December.
Good for you for knowing it was time to quit!

We just started watching once upon a time after jumping into it mid third season. We went back and started from episode one season one! It is sooo good!
